A portion of US highway 71 is currently shut down after multiple reports were taken from MODOT and Missouri Highway Patrol citing tar coming off the roadway and sticking to vehicles between US Highway 136 at Burlington Junction and Icon road outside Maryville.
All southbound traffic is routed to state Highway 113, while northbound traffic is routed to state Highway 148.
US Highway 71 will be closed from the Burlington T to the Business 71 turn off until further notice.
MODOT is advising northbound drivers to use a detour taking Highway 46 out of Maryville, to Highway 113, then taking Highway 136 back to Highway 71.
MODOT is also advising southbound drivers to take a detour from Highway 136, to Highway 113, then turn on Highway 46 to get back into Maryville.
